It is with immense pleasure and honor that I extend a warm welcome to each and every one of you to the 13th International Conference on Earth Observations and Social Impacts (ICEO&SI), hosted by the Taiwan Group on Earth Observations (TGEO). This significant gathering, the 13th ICEO&SI, is made possible through the collaborative efforts of TGEO and the esteemed National Central University (NCU). Allow me to express my heartfelt gratitude to Distinguished Professor & President Wen-Cheng Liu and Distinguished Professor & Chairman Hwa Chien, whose exemplary leadership and dedication have paved the way for the meticulous planning and execution of this exceptional event. |
Since its inception, TGEO has been steadfast in its mission to foster international cooperation and exchange. Established in 2010 with the inaugural Workshop on Earth Observations, TGEO has been instrumental in convening the ICEO&SI annually, providing a vital platform for scientists to address the pressing global challenges facing humanity. Notably, in 2014-2015, TGEO, alongside GISA of Japan and KAGIS of Korea, spearheaded the formation of the International Association of Geo-informatics (IAG'i), a collaborative endeavor aimed at sharing advancements in Remote Sensing, Geographic Information Systems, Global Navigation Satellite Systems, and beyond. This initiative culminated in the establishment of IAG'i and its subsequent annual assemblies hosted by the founding countries. Moreover, in 2019, during the GISA Annual Meeting in Tokushima, Japan, it was unanimously agreed upon by the three associations to welcome new international bodies into the fold of IAG'i.
Furthermore, the International Conference on Earth Observations and Nature Hazards (ICEO&NH), a sister conference of ICEO&SI, has emerged as a vital platform for knowledge exchange since its inception in 2017. Co-hosted by TGEO and various public and private entities, ICEO&NH continues to evolve as an integral component of the international discourse on earth observations.
Over the years, the ICEO&SI conferences have welcomed over 2000 academics, researchers, engineers, and students from more than 23 countries across 5 continents. Their participation has yielded fruitful exchanges and invaluable insights, with over 1141 papers presented, many of which have been published in prestigious journals. As we gather for IAG'i and ICEO&SI 2024, we are committed to upholding this legacy of excellence, ensuring an enriching experience for all participants. In closing, I extend my sincere appreciation to the organizers and contributors whose tireless efforts have made this conference possible. I invite each of you to immerse yourselves in the rich culture of Hakka and the natural beauty of Taoyuan City, and I wish you a pleasant and rewarding experience at the conference.
